Joint Reconstructive Surgery Focused on You

Joint disorders are common because of the frequent pressure applied to the area throughout our lives. They are most common in athletes and older people.

But joint disorders such as arthritis and fractures do not necessarily result in lifelong pain. Joint reconstructive surgery offers relief for many people through safe and minimally invasive procedures by experienced professionals.

Joint reconstruction ranges from minor repairs to the damaged joint to total joint replacement.

Surgeons who practice reconstructive orthopedics provide care in an effort to increase the patient’s quality of life, as well as attempting to return the affected area of the body to full or near-full functionality.

Although all reconstructive surgeons are trained to repair damage to the musculoskeletal system in general, some may specialize in a certain area, such as pediatric reconstructive surgery (children), shoulder and elbow reconstruction, or joint replacement, among other specialized areas.

When providing care, reconstructive orthopedic surgeons may perform a wide range of operations.

Common operations performed in reconstructive orthopedics include joint replacement surgeries of the knee or hip; procedures such as these are vital to mobility and can vastly improve a patient’s quality of life.

Again, the overarching goal of reconstructive orthopedics is to restore functionality to affected limbs or areas.

Hear from some of our patients

Successful Open Joint Reconstructive Surgery Story

The patient (Identity Confidential), was referred to Orthobridge Institute with complaints of a painful swollen left thumb.

He had been bike riding at Karura Forest when he fell off his bike and accidentally twisted his thumb. Local examination by Col (Dr) Adari showed a tender swollen thumb at the metacarpophalangeal joint on the ulnar aspect of it.

As per Orthobridge Orthopedic Centre principles, said the patient was first assisted conservatively as a case of ulnar collateral ligament injury by immobilization. Six weeks later, after having exhausted all the patients’ non-surgical treatment options, there was no symptomatic improvement. Further tests reported ulnar collateral ligament tear.

He was then prepared and taken for OPEN joint reconstructive surgery using suture anchors and internal bracing. He performed remarkably well and has since returned to his sport a happy man.

Successful Open Joint Reconstructive Surgery Story

The patient ( Identity Confidential ) is a professional footballer. One day while playing, a colleague tackled him forcing his knee into sudden inward movement. He felt a snapping sound, a sharp pain, and a feeling of the knee giving way.

He was not able to continue with the football match. Later, there was significant knee swelling but in a couple of weeks, the knee swelling subsided.

The main complaint when he came to Orthrobridge Institute was knee instability. Clinically, Lackman’s test at 30 degrees of flexion was positive. Lelli’s test, pivot shift test, and anterior drawer test were all positive. Which diagnosed that he had an Anterior Cruciate Ligament tear (ACL) as well as a meniscus tear. Complimentary MRI tests reported a medial meniscus tear.

The patient underwent Arthroscopic ACL reconstruction using an all-inside ACL Reconstruction (Arthrex) and meniscal repair.
He has done remarkably well and is on his tenth week of rehabilitation. At six months, the patient will be able to resume contact sports.
